“One of the things that I like most about UPO is that they encourage everyone to do their very best.”
Monique Diop is a long-time Ward 8 resident who is passionate about her community. Tired of being bombarded daily with negative news about her community, she started seeking a way to share the positive stories about her neighborhood! A friend told her about UPO’s Toastmasters chapter and she immediately joined! She’s been amplifying her voice ever since!
“I joined Toastmasters because I really want to promote and tell the stories about DC residents in Ward 8. There are some amazing things going on and people need to know!”
UPO’s chapter of Toastmasters International provides a supportive and positive learning environment for individuals to develop their public speaking and leadership skills. The program is sponsored by UPO’s Advocacy and Volunteer Services division to empower residents across the District!
Toastmasters is an international program that teaches leadership, how to focus, actively listen, and how to become better prepared to speak publicly.
“Through Toastmasters, I’ve learned how to organize my thoughts, control my speech and most importantly, make my voice be heard.”
Monique has become a long-term volunteer and expanded her skills by taking advantage of the many volunteer opportunities presented at our Ralph Waldo “Petey” Green Community Service Center in Ward 8.
Monique is developing her leadership abilities and is looking to help others in her community. Growing in confidence, dedication, and determination to achieve great goals, she is on the path to self-sufficiency! She is looking to help others sharpen their skills and find their voice! #SheIsUPO! #MoveToEmpowerment
