Thank you for supporting and attending our 33rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast! The event was “re-envisioned,re-engineered and re-energized!”

We were delighted to spend our Saturday morning celebrating the legacy of Dr. King, promoting higher education for DC high school students, and thanking longtime UPO supporters and sponsors. The Howard Theatre was filled with live jazz from Shacara Rogers as guests had the chance to meet UPO customers, staff and board members. We had a “robing ceremony” to induct our 2016 Joseph A. Beavers scholarship recipients into the “Beavers Society” and then the scholars were able to personally thank scholarship donors through our MLK Legacy Sponsor presentation!

Among the esteemed guests, we had Mayor Muriel Bowser share a few words about DC values and reaffirm her administration’s commitment to education, job training, and second chance employment! We debuted our “Dream Builders: UPO Employment Training and Services” video and received an inspiring message from keynote speaker, Denise Turner Roth, the 21st Senate-confirmed Administrator of the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA)!

We appreciate the community’s support in making this year’s breakfast a success and we hope you join us in uniting people with opportunities throughout the year! Review the event highlights below!
