Our Foster Grandparents celebrated the 108th birthday of UPO’s oldest volunteer, Virginia McLaurin!
Grandma McLaurin became an international sensation when she danced with former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House, a few weeks before she turned 107!
This year she celebrated 108 years with her fellow Foster Grandparents, cake, balloons, and a live performer!
The group was also applauding Grandma Elma Adams, for becoming a new Certified Child Development Associate! She earned this nationally-recognized credential from the Council for Professional Recognition. The program is designed to improve the quality of early childhood care and education. Grandma Adams passed her assessment with flying colors and enthusiastically encouraged her peers to do the same!
UPO’s Foster Grandparent program provides critical mentoring and support to District children and offers seniors an opportunity to give back. The program currently operates in 40 plus locations, with an ever growing demand.
