POSITION: Employment Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Asset Development – Employment & Career Development

SALARY RANGE: $40,000 - $50,000

Brief Description: Provide support to promote pre-employment and employment retention of at least 180 days to customers successfully placed in employment by UPO. Provide weekly and monthly phone and face-to-face contact with placed customers and employer contacts, provide assistance and mediation as issues present, provide linkage between customers and Case Management and/or other units as appropriate when resource needs are identified, develop support groups and/or continuing professional development opportunities, facilitate worksites on a monthly basis for employed customers, develop employer support programs with UPO major employers, work in collaboration with Program Manager to document, track, and evaluate service outcomes and develop innovative initiatives to promote customer retention.

Minimum Qualification: Bachelor’s degree with 5-8 years of experience working with same population; Master’s degree preferred in Career Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field. Experience in implementing programs that serve low-income individuals with employment focus, knowledge of District non-profit community, ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally, computer literacy including MS Office and data management systems, must be able to work some evenings and weekends.


This position IS in the collective bargaining unit represented by Communication Workers of America CWA). Any regular employee hired in a bargaining unit position, SHALL as a condition of employment, pay union dues and be a union member or pay amount equal to union dues within 30 days after entrance to UPO. ALL bargaining unit employees that are not paying union dues or an amount equal to union dues within 30 days will be terminated.
