UPO embraces all populations and makes it a point to develop strategies to address the needs of children and families who deal with disabilities, homelessness, foster care as well as language and cultural barriers. Passionate about helping children learn and develop fundamental skills for development, UPO also extends its care and services to the entire family. UPO serves low-income families and help them progress to self-sufficiency, whether that’s by helping them to secure viable employment, move into affordable housing or benefit from a solid education.

UPO has fully engaged several community partners in assessing the specific need for services. Representatives from the faith-based community, community activists and advocacy organizations, DCPS, local government agencies, local businesses, nonprofit organizations, public safety, public officials, social services organizations, and UPO staff, clients and partner organizations collaborate to help UPO help District residents.
