The center provides measurable services in a planned effort to assist residents in reaching a desired level of self-sufficiency with emphasis on family strengthening. Serves neighborhoods of Congress Heights, Washington Highlands; Henson’s Creek; and Barry Farms in southeast Washington, DC.
* The Ralph Waldo “ Petey” Greene Community Service Center is named in honor of the former UPO employee and local broadcaster who was an inspiration to many community residents across the economic spectrum.
Mr. Greene died in 1983.

Serves the Shaw, Columbia Heights, and LeDroit Park communities in Wards 1 and 2 providing services and activities that remove obstacles which prevent individuals and families to reach their full potential for self-sufficiency. New UPO/Shaw Business Center (component of overall UPO/Shaw Community Service Center) focuses on developing special skills needed in today’s Washington, DC marketplace.

Friendship House, one of DC’s oldest social service agencies, was established in 1904 as a volunteer effort to respond to the conditions of the poor living in the neighborhoods around the US Capitol. Provides a range of services and activities for residents in neighborhoods alone Georgia Avenue, NW and the Howard University area that encourage and promote self-sufficiency and family stabilization.
UPO FUNDED DELEGATE AGENCIES (CSBG)
UPO provides funding for six delegate agencies that provide services to their local communities. UPO delegate agencies work at the street level bringing CSBG services to the neighborhoods.
These services, which are operated by independent grantees or directly by UPO, include specialized hotlines, senior citizens activities, child care services, and neighborhood programs.
Others services are substance abuse prevention, youth programs, services for homeless families, health related activities, and specialized transportation.
COMMUNITY & FAITH-BASED INITIATIVES (CSBG)
Community and Faith-Based initiatives provide specialized unique services to Washington, DC residents in all wards of the District of Columbia.
